We made it to Nine Mile Canyon, "The Worlds Longest Art Gallery", 48 miles of petroglyphs. Denise noticed this road several years ago and we decided we had to come see it. Took a few years but this is it.

We stayed at Nine Mile Canyon Ranch for three nights. It's the only camping within Nine Mile Canyon, a private campground and cattle ranch. No hookups but they did have showers. It snowed a few days before we arrived which was a surprise and could still be seen on surrounding hills.

The 48 miles of Nine Mile Canyon Road is paved. The tour could be easily be done in a day, but you'd miss a lot. There are dozens of marked petroglyphs but many more that aren't marked. That's what we could see on the west side of the canyon, where the road goes. No reason to believe there aren't just as many on the east side. Ads for the place mention thousands and we couldn't disagree. Here are a number of examples, probably not the most famous but these pictures came out best.

You wonder how anyone would get the idea of spaceships coming to earth from these petroglyphs. Just baffling.

We understand that the petroglyphs in Nine Mile Canyon were made by the Fremonts. They lived north of and were contemporaries with the Ancestral Puebloans (Anasazi). So, these were created between 700AD and 1250AD. Nine Mile Canyon itself isn't overly impressive, but if you like acenstral art this is a must see. Oh, OK, one more cute petroglyph before we leave.
